Tuleň Weddellův je velký mořský savec, jehož domovinou jsou studené vody Jižního oceánu okolo celé Antarktidy. Jedná se o savce s nejjižnějším habitatem na světě. Druh představuje jediného zástupce monotypického rodu Leptonychotes. Tuleň má zavalité tělo vřetenovitého tvaru s tmavou, stříbřitě kropenatou srstí. Oči jsou tmavé a velké a dobře přizpůsobené šerosvitu pod vodou. Stejně jako ostatní tuleňovití i tuleni Weddelovi postrádají ušní boltce. V orientaci pod vodou jim pomáhají tmavé vibrisy. Samice měří 2,6–3,3 m a váží 400–500 kg, samci měří 2,5–2,9 m a jejich váha se pohybuje kolem 300–450 kg. .. pokračovat ve čtení
