Demonstration of effects of a light diffuser in close-up photography. Left a flowering plant of Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi) in direct sunlight. With the help of a diffuser (in this case a white fabric-covered "studio umbrella") then the plant – not the background – was shaded artificially. The result is shown in the right image. Decide yourself which one you like best.
