A Rainbow lorikeet enjoying the sweet nectar of a Drunken parrot tree - the common name of this tree in Australia. It is likely a myth about this tree, but at least it proves that parrots do like the flowers! I think this spectacular flowering African tree is also known as the "Weeping boer-bean" in S. Africa. The "weeping" label is due to the dripping nectar, rather than the foliage that "weep" or "droop"!

Schotia brachypetala Fabaceae/Caesalpiniaceae

Schotia is an easily grown tree, and is remarkably hardy in both poor soil and very dry conditions. Normally it is evergreen, but in dry conditions it could drop the leaves before the flowering season - which is what happened in Brisbane last year, during a very abundant flowering season.
